| A background check is a process in which the specifics of an individual's past are revealed for the purposes of employment, obtaining access to classified information, or obtaining restricted items. The amount of information included on a background check depends to a large degree on the sensitivity of the reason for which it is conducted—e.g., somebody seeking employment at a minimum wage job would be subject to far fewer background check requirements than somebody applying to work for the FBI. |

Background Checks
So what is a background check? Something to make an applicant acceptable to the employer.
The usual check is a canned program from an information broker. They are not costly and do miss some important things but they would likely detect criminal activity and some past history.
Then, there are background checks; like going for a military Top Secret which can easily be $50,000.
One check on a CEO going to the Philippines cost $250,000, which was not my contract but the oil company's. They gladly paid it as this potential executive was going to receive a million dollar a year salary plus perks and benefits. |
